Baker Animal Hospital opened in early 1965, and originally began as a single doctor practice.
It was the first veterinary facility in the area with stainless steel cages, gas anesthesia, and x-ray
equipment. The practice was located in Cridersville because at the time the telephone system served
both the Lima and Wapak areas. By 1971, Dr. Robert F. Baker’s practice had grown so much that he added four examination rooms and a business office. In 1974, a surgery suite large enough for three surgery tables and other equipment was added. In 1980, Dr. Baker sold the practice to his daughter, Dr. Ann Baker, and Dr. Fred Ryan. Ten years later, Dr. Ann and Dr. Ryan were married. Their daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1991. Dr. Ann and Dr. Ryan had the hospital inspected and accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) in 1983. Regular inspections occurred every two years after that until 2003, when a four-year accreditation was awarded. In January of 2007, Baker Animal Hospital was again inspected and accredited. This marked the hospital’s 24th year of being a member of AAHA! In 2004, Dr. Ferguson became a partner at Baker Animal Hospital. Together, Dr. Ryan and he have made some overdue renovations to the facility. In spring of 2005, the lobby area was “opened up” and given a fresh color. The client response to that was dramatic. In 2006, the surgery room was divided into a smaller suite and a prep room. The improvement enabled better sterilization procedures to be performed. The overall goal of Baker Animal Hospital is to provide the best patient care. Excellent client satisfaction is what propels us to achieve our goal. |
